Pictures worth a thousand words

Pictures worth a thousand words

By Sophia Shubatt and Emma Earles

Whether it’s taking shots of the Mississippi at sunset or mirror pics in the McDonald’s bathroom, photography is a major part of how we, as a society, live. This aspect of our everyday lives is enhanced and facilitated through one of Wahlert’s entry-level art classes, Digital Photography.

It allows us to see the world in a different way.

— Anna Herrig,'18

In this class, students learn to communicate visually. This gives students a chance to express their creativity in a new way, without words. On the more practical side of things, students in Digital Photography learn camera functions, Photoshop and different photography techniques.

Why do you think Digital Photography is an important thing to learn for high school students?

“It’s important because if you only take academic classes, you never get to express your creative side.”

-Paige Hahn, ‘18

“Digital Photo is another way of communicating through pictures. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. It is a class where students have to think outside the box. It encourages creativity.”

-Mr. Tom Bierie, instructor

“It allows us to see the world in a different way — through photos.”

-Anna Herrig, ‘18
