Kuntz making strides

Kuntz, ’19, accelerates off the block.

Standing at 6 foot 4, Alden Kuntz, ‘19, is involved in football, basketball and track.

Currently, Kuntz is excelling in track and was nominated for the Telegraph Herald’s Athlete of the Week award. He has the top time on the team in the 200m dash and the 100m dash, and he won the 60m dash at the Mississippi Valley Conference indoor track meet at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Although he clearly excels in track, Kuntz prefers football. During the fall, however, Kuntz plays football.

“My favorite sport is football because I like to tackle people,” Kuntz explained.  He lines up on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball as a wide receiver and defensive end.

“I like to play defensive end the most because that’s when I get to tackle people.”

In basketball, Kuntz dominates in the post position. He snatched 7.1 rebounds per game and put up 6.4 points each game.

“The best memory of the basketball season was when we beat Senior at Wahlert, and I had a breakaway dunk,” Kuntz said.

“I was super excited and happy when my friend told me I was nominated the Telegraph Herald recognition,” Kuntz explained.

Even though he didn’t win Athlete of the Week, he still felt honored that he was nominated. “Hopefully, this isn’t the first time that I get nominated for Athlete of the Week, so maybe I could win it next time.
