Life as a manager

Do you ever wonder what it’s like to be a team manager? Maybe you are looking for another activity to take part in or you are just curious about managing a sport.
To be a manager, you need many characteristics such as self- motivation, leadership skills, responsibility, reliability, loyalty and school spirit. Rachel Schmerbach, ‘15, was one of the cross country managers this year. “I am responsible for many things that my team needs in order to succeed,” said Schmerbach.
For example, Schmerbach has to record times, and her team relies on her to get them water after their race. “My team needs water to stay hydrated and succeed in their races. I do anything that is helpful for my team including organizing and being a support system, whether I am comparing times from last year to this year or encouraging a runner,” says Schmerbach.
Schmerbach also gets to spend a lot of time with Coach Cynthia Wagner and form relationships with her teammates.
“Managing is an awesome way to be a part of Wahlert!” said Rachel Schmerbach.
