Big plans for a big future

Aliyah Carter, ‘20, is a new student at Wahlert. Carter originally attended  Hempstead High School, but she transferred to Wahlert mid-year.

“I didn’t really like the teachers there, and I feel like I can learn better here. There’s less people here, and everyone’s so nice. I knew from the moment I started here. I knew it was the right fit for me,” said Carter.

Carter is a 5’, 9” volleyball player who hopes to be on varsity next year. She plays for the Adrenaline 16 Rocks club volleyball team in Cedar Rapids. She usually plays the outside or all around. She has traveled all over for volleyball, even as far as Florida for a tournament, and she has a scholarship to Iowa.

“My goal is to live up to Mackenzie May,” said Carter. Other goals she has this season are to help the team make it to a back-to-back state, and to, of course, beat Hempstead.

Carter’s religion has always been an important part of her life. “I pray before a big game or tournament. I am also a holy person, and I consider faith  a big part of my life.”

Keeping her active life and her faith in mind, Carter lives by her favorite quote,

“Pray, slay, conquer the day.”
