Earth Day is just around the corner. The day brings the issue of climate change into focus. It may not sound like a big deal, but the things climate change has done, and will do, are dangerous.

“Climate change is very dramatic and it will have consequences for humans, such as drought, flooding, and severe weather. The best solution for this would be to increase the number of trees and to decrease the use of fossil fuels,” Korrin Schriver, the moderator of LEAP, explained. The trees are supposed to produce more sustainable resources for us and for the rest of our environment.

LEAP is the environmental club, at Wahlert, whose primary goal is to keep the environment safe. They research the conditions of the environment and what affects it, and what they can do to fix it. As of now, their task is to start planting trees in random places as an attempt to fight off climate change.

“We are trying to raise awareness for the environment and all the animals that live in it,” said LEAP member Hannah Gasper, ‘16.

Raising awareness isn’t easy. One of the worst parts about climate change is that many people who cause it, they have no idea that they do.

“I don’t think many people know about it because it’s really not the first thing you think about. That’s why it’s important to raise awareness,” said Gasper. The plan to raise awareness by using news, media, and other areas of finding information.

Mrs. Schriver, Gasper, and all the other members of this environmental group are trying to make this goal a reality, especially as Earth Day draws near.

One more tree is one step closer to a better Earth.
