Almost every teenager loves to spend money, whether it’s spent on food, clothes, or activities done with friends or family. For some students at Wahlert, however, spending their money is a tough weekly decision. Whether students convince their parents to give them money or work hours at a job, most enjoy the things and experiences money buys. For instance, “I love coming home from a shift at TJ Maxx with a couple new things here and there,” says Olivia Blosch, ‘19.

Blosch enjoys working at TJ Maxx during the week and on the weekends to earn money. She spends most of her money where she works because she gets a discount on clothing.

However, some freshmen do not have a job yet. So when Carson Cummer, ‘22, wants to go shopping, he has to ask his parents for his spending money. “I usually like to shop at Dick’s Sporting Goods,” says Cummer.

Cummer explains he does not have a budget when shopping for clothes; it’s up to his parents.

“It sometimes can be hard because my parents don’t always give me money,” says Cummer.

While some students spend their money on clothes, some spend their money on food. Karlie Welbes, ‘20, says she occasionally spends her money during the week, but tries to save her money for eating out at her favorite place on the weekends.

“I love spending money at Pita Pit because the end result is my stomach being full!” said Welbes.

Although Welbes enjoys spending her money, she typically tries to spend under $100. Welbes also says she works at her grandpa’s office to receive her spending money.

Eating out on the weekend seems to be very popular for high schoolers. Danny Steele, ‘21, said his favorite place to spend money  is Red Robin.

“My friends and I love to eat at Red Robin. We go there all the time on the weekends,” said Steele.

A common theme for many students is spending money with their friends, so they can enjoy quality time together.
