Freshmen kick it for the first time

A group of freshmen girls gathered to take pictures at the Clarke Atrium.

On Feb. 22nd, Wahlert’s annual Winter Formal took place. For many of the freshmen, it was their first formal high school dance. Their first dance could have been very stressful, but also could have ended up being a really great time.

Jenna Berendes, ‘22, was pleasantly surprised. “I thought the dance was going to be similar to the freshman dance at the beginning of the year,” she said. “But it was a lot different since there were many more students there.”

Although the dance was casual, some freshman decided to go for a different and unique look for their first dance. .

“My date and I decided to match, by both wearing a pair of white vans,” Claire Walker, ‘22 said. “I thought it would be a different and fun idea since no one else has done it before.”

Even though many upperclassman had said that the dance is very laid back, the freshmen discovered otherwise.

“It was pretty awkward to start with, but then my friends and I ended up having a good time,” Colin Greiner, ‘22, stated.

Some enjoyed dancing around with the upperclassmen.

“At first, I wasn’t looking forward to going, but the upperclassman made all of us feel very welcome when we got to the dance,” Walker said.  “I liked seeing them at the dance and hanging out with them.”
