Accelerating past the ACTs

Ellie Osterberger, 18, feeling confident about her upcoming ACT performance as she studies.

The results are in! As a whole, the seniors have shown they are ready for college by doing pretty well on the ACT test. The ACT is one way that colleges determine how you stack up compared to other applying students.

The senior class’  average score was 24.1 out of a possible 36. Few people score a perfect 36. Studying and preparation can help students achieve a good score on the challenging test.

Ms. Katie Lenart, guidance counselor, offers some helpful tips to prepare and study for the ACT. To be best prepared, students will want to start early, around two months in advance. There are also classes to take through Loras and Wahlert. The classes can help students with how to take the ACT, and how to choose the best answer. On the ACT website, there are also a good number of practice questions. At a local bookstore, such as BAM, practice books are also sold.

Now the pressure is on the juniors as they prepare to take the ACT next spring, for the better they do on the ACT, the more likely their college options will be to expand.
