What’s the harm of a wastebasket?!

A wastebasket. What’s the harm of a wastebasket? The sturdy ones cost only about $30 to 50, which is the only disadvantage. But, having a wastebasket put in a hallway or in the bathroom wouldn’t hurt anyone.

We believe that there should be wastebaskets placed around the school for everyone’s convenience.

We’re tired of blowing our noses in the bathroom and having nowhere to put the tissue but the toilets.

If you’ve ever been in in the restroom or in the hall, holding a wrapper, a tissue, or any trash, you know how frustrating it is to not have a trash can around. We understand that it would take time out of the janitorial staff’s time each day to empty it, but in the end, we might be saving our school from having garbage lying around or having wrappers fly away outside littering the environment.

Vice Principal Ms. Cindy Wagner said there are no trash cans because the school just got rid of the paper towels, so it’s not necessary to have so many more, eight to be exact, trash cans lying around. It’s also more work for the people who need to empty them.

Honestly, we believe that the little extra work should be worth it. We’re tired of blowing our noses in the bathroom and having nowhere to put the tissue but the toilets.

As a Catholic  community we are called to care for God’s creation. With trash floating around our book bags or in our hands, it has the possibility of falling out.

As a Catholic school we should live out our responsibility to take care of God’s creation and take the steps we can to help out.  A wastebasket on the way out of the bathroom or in the halls that don’t have them could be a great step in helping to reduce litter from ending up anywhere but the trash cans. This would help make our school community a healthier and cleaner place for everyone.
