Rock the Rafters campers practice the large group dance before the performance.

On Sunday, the Wahlert Dance Team held Rock the Rafters, a dance camp for kids ages 4-12. The program works as both a showcase and fundraiser for the team.

Pre-K campers show off their dance skills to the crowds.

“Rock the Rafters is an opportunity for the team to choreograph and learn to teach dance,” said Mrs. Amanda Collins, the dance team coach. “It also exposes the little ones to Wahlert’s program at a young age. Hopefully, they will be excited about potentially becoming a part of it down the road!”

Members of the team also appreciate the benefits of Rock the Rafters.

Joey Rauch, ‘19, said, “It allows more people to see our program, and the fundraising aspect helps fund the expenses of the dance team.”

Joey Rauch, ’19 and Sophia Huntington, ’19, lead second graders in their dance to “Zero to Hero”.

But more than anything else, Rock the Rafters offers a fun opportunity for kids of all ages to meet new people and spend an afternoon dancing their hearts out.

This year, the program brought in a total of 91 campers. Each age group was separated into individual teams and learned a dance choreographed by the high school students. At the end of the program, all of the campers came together to dance to “We’re All In This Together” by the High School Musical cast.

“I just love teaching little kids all of the dances!” gushed Allie Arz, ‘20. “And having young kids look up to us as role models inspires me to continue doing my best as a dancer.”
