Top 10 changes of iOS 10

Attention all iPhone users! Have you had the chance to update to the new iOS 10 software? Whether you have or haven’t, you’ve most likely heard some buzz about all of the new features. Here are the top 10 most substantial changes to know about:

  • New Lock Screen This new feature is most likely the first thing you’ll notice in the new software. Long gone are the days of sliding to unlock. Now, with one click of the home button, you can get in and access all of the apps, messages, photos, and more on your phone.
  • Raise to Wake iOS 10 allows you to wake up your phone without clicking a button. Just like the apple watch, the Raise to Wake setting lets you peek at your notifications without clicking the lock screen
  • 3D Touch Lock Screen You can now set live photos as your lock screen and interact with them. By holding down your finger on your lock screen, you can see your background come to life.
  • Deleting Apps Have you ever run out of storage and wanted to delete the pre installed Apple apps for more space? Well now, you can! For example, if you’re not into checking out the status of the markets on the Stocks app, just tap, hold, and click the “X” in the corner to delete.
  • Photos Photos now has the capability to recognize faces. By going into the album called “People” in your Photos app, your iphone categorizes how many pictures each of your friends appear in.
  • Maps The biggest change is that Maps now gives you suggestions on where to head. For example, it will use addresses from your mail, messages, or other apps to determine where the phone thinks you are likely to drive. Also, you can now change your route/final destination while you’re in route.
  • Siri Siri now has the capability to communicate with other apps on your phone. For example, although Uber has not yet come to Dubuque, you can ask Siri for a ride. If you have the Uber app, she will contact a driver for you.
  • Handwritten Messages By turning your phone sideways while in the Messages app, a blank canvas will appear for you to draw or write a handwritten message to your friends. If you turn your phone sideways and the keyboard still shows up, there should be a button with a little, squiggly line that allows you to access the handwritten messages.
  • Emojis iOS 10 presents the capabilities to automatically replace certain words with emojis. For example if you type the word “happy” in a text, your iPhone will suggest you replace the word “happy” with the smiley face emoji. Your phone will search your entire message and highlight the words that can be replaced by emojis. Also, Apple redesigned most of the emojis to have a “flatter” look, as well as adding 72 new emojis to the keyboard.
  • Games with your Contacts By clicking on the App Store symbol next to the space where you type messages, you can now add various apps that allow you to challenge your contacts to different games. For example, by downloading “GamePigeon”, you can play your friends in various, classic games from 8-Ball Pool, to Poker. In addition to games, you can also directly send GIFs, songs, and other various media to your contacts.
