Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
What’s it about? In this sequel to Alice in Wonderland, Alice returns to Wonderland by climbing through a mirror. Once there, the Red Queen tells Alice that she is part of a chess game and the way to win is to become a queen herself. The book follows Alice through several different adventures. In the movie, renamed Alice Through the Looking Glass, Alice returns to Wonderland to find the Mad Hatter depressed over the loss of his family. In an attempt to correct this, Alice steals the Chronosphere from Time to travel back in time to save the Mad Hatter’s family.

What’s it about? Will Traynor was a carefree, successful businessman who often spent his time climbing mountains and going on adventures. After he becomes paraplegic due to an accident, he beings to lose his will to live. His mother hires Louisa Clarke, a quirky and unemployed 26-year-old, to look after Will. Louisa finds out about Will’s lack of enthusiasm about life and resolves to make him excited about life again.

The BFG by Roald Dahl
What’s it about? Sophie is an orphan in an all-girls orphanage in London run by an abusive head mistress. One night, Sophie is kidnapped by the Big Friendly Giant, a.k.a the BFG, and taken to Giant Country. There she learns that the BFG is unlike other giants in that he refuses to eat children, instead he blows bottled dreams into the bedrooms of children. Over time, her friendship with the BFG attracts the unwanted attention of some evil giants.

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
What’s it about? This story takes place after World War I off the coast of Australia in a lighthouse. The lighthouse keeper and his wife, Tom and Isabel Sherbourne, find a baby and a dead man in a shipwrecked boat on the shore of the lighthouse. Because of the couple’s heartbreak at being unable to have children of their own, Tom and Isabel decide to raise the baby on their own.
When does it come out? Sept. 2, 2016
What’s it about? High school senior, Vee, gets caught up in a creepy online game of truth or dare, minus the truth. As the risks get higher, so do the rewards. Early on, the game pairs her up with Ian, a stranger. As time goes on, the two gain a following of fans, but the game gets more and more dangerous until it is impossible for the two to stop playing.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
What’s it about? After finding herself depressed from the failure of her marriage, Rachel Watson becomes intrigued by a couple she sees from the window of her train. When the woman goes missing, Rachel becomes obsessed with solving the mystery of where she went and what happened.
When does it come out? Oct. 7, 2016
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
What’s it about? 13-year-old Connor has the same nightmare every night after his mom is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Every night, he wakes up seven minutes after midnight and looks out his window to see a monster in the tree outside his house. The monster tells Connor three different stories all with a twist ending.
When does it come out? Oct. 14, 2016
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling
What’s it about? A different story that takes place in the Harry Potter world documents the work of magizoologist Newt Scamander. The book is more or less a textbook, about the history of magizoology and magical creatures. The film will be about Newt’s adventures in magizoology and how he acquired his knowledge of the creatures.
When does it come out? Nov. 18, 2016
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
What’s it about? When Jacob was young, he used to love hearing his grandfather’s stories about growing up in an orphanage in Wales. His grandfather told him stories of the peculiar children who lived at Miss Peregrine’s Home and showed him pictures of invisible boys and a little girl with a mouth on the back of her head. As Jacob grew up, he stopped believing in his grandfather’s stories, but then he witnessed his grandfather being killed by monster. No one believed him, however, and Jacob fell into a depression. His psychiatrist recommended that Jacob visit the orphanage where his grandfather grew up. While there, Jacob meets Emma who shows him a portal to the past where Miss Peregrine’s Home was not yet been destroyed by bombs from the war.
