Best Dressed Nest
Over the past years, it has become routine for students to encourage fans to dress in certain ways for high school athletics. The terms “black out” and “white out” no longer mean a massive power outage, or white liquid to cover up errors on papers. They are now terms for commonplace high school athletics when students show up wearing certain colors or costumes.
Many Wahlert students favorite theme is snapbacks and tattoos. Most people will wear basketball jerseys, a snapback hat, and either put temporary tattoos all over their body, or draw tattoos with markers. This theme is usually worn during basketball games against the Hempstead Mustangs or Senior Rams.
“The themes are discussed between a group seniors every week to decide a theme for the upcoming games. If we can’t come to a conclusion we put a poll on Ryan Weber’s Twitter for other students to decide.” Alec Weber, ‘16, said. “My favorite theme is probably snapbacks and tattoos because it is the most unique.”
In agreement, Reagan Rambousek, ‘19, says. “I like snapbacks and tattoos because we get to show off our personality and uniqueness with the style of our snapbacks.”
Wahlert has chosen many unique and different themes throughout this year, such as a thrift shop out, business out, jersey out, snapbacks and tattoos, cowboy out, neon out, America out, denim out, and for one game this year, the students wore their school uniforms.
Owen Funke, ‘18, says. “I like Jersey out because I can see all the different types of jerseys that are being on display in the nest and everyone is always apart of it.”
In contrast, Elizabeth Gehling, ‘18, said. “I like blackouts because they are really cool and fun.”
Zach Berning, ‘19, says. “I like spirit outs because we get to wear our school colors and get to show off our pride for our school, it’s a lot of fun.”
In contradiction, David Hughes, ‘19, said. “I like black out because it is easy to do and most of the students participate in it.
