Battle of the burgers: over and underrated fast food in Dubuque
Even though Dubuque, Iowa, is a town most people would consider small, there are still a plethora of fast food restaurants to choose from when looking for a quick bite to eat. In fact, there are so many choices when it comes to fast food that it can be difficult to pick one. Even so, some students have strong opinions on the fast food options in Dubuque.
Veronica McDonald, ‘22, has some strong beliefs when it comes to fast food. She says, “I think that Chipotle is definitely overrated. The queso’s not that great, and I think people say they like going there because it’s popular. I also think that Culver’s is overrated because their burgers are mid.”
McDonald also believes that there are some fast food restaurants in Dubuque that are often overlooked. “I definitely think that A&W is underrated… Everyone always forgets about it, but the food is really good at a reasonable price and their Polar Swirls are amazing.”
Like all opinions, there is no one-size-fits-all. Ellie Kirby, ‘22, believes that “Jimmy John’s is so overrated. The bread that everybody likes is thick, chewy and dry… Chipotle is an underrated restaurant. It’s fresh and delicious, and even the queso is good. Pancheros has good queso, too, but I think people like to rave about Panch because everyone else does.”
Will Kamentz, ‘22, agrees with Kirby, saying, “I think Pancheros is overrated because the quality isn’t too great and it’s expensive for what it is. But I think that Panera is underrated because you know what you’re getting every time and their mac and cheese is delicious.”
One thing’s for sure, and that is that no matter the restaurant, teenagers are bound to have an opinion.
