Is Online a new way of shopping?
There are advantages and disadvantages to shopping online or retail, with sizes, cost of shipping and just plainly liking one over the other, says Allison Arnz, ‘20. In a poll of 158 students, 76 students say they shop online and 79 students shop retail, while 6 students do a little bit of both.
“I like shopping online more because it is a lot easier to find what I want. I can look it up specifically, and it doesn’t take as much work as going to a bunch of different stores and finding stuff. Sometimes going out and shopping at places can be a fun social event, but I definitely prefer shopping online,” says Sydney Rury, ‘19.
Rury continued, “I feel like you can find stuff cheaper online because they are always running discounts and sales, and a lot of time you can get free shipping on stuff if you like to order so much. At the same time, it may be cheaper in stores because you can find sales, but I guess they’re pretty much the same. I’ve never noticed anything that makes them different.”
Although shopping online may save a lot of time because you only have to pull out your laptop or phone, shopping retail can also have many advantages.
Arnz states, “I think retail is better for shopping because you can actually know the right sizes, see the color, and how the clothes fit.” She added, “You also don’t get charged shipping.”
So where do these students like to shop?
“American Eagle is good. Amazon is good because you can get anything on there, and Rule 21 I like,” Rury says. Meanwhile, Arnz says, “I like to shop at H&M or Zara and Nordstrom.”
