Babysitting provides income for many

Children laughing, screaming and even pooping. Babysitting can truly be unpredictable. Being a babysitter means you have to be prepared for pretty much anything. Ellie Timmerman, ‘20, learned this very quickly.

“One time when I was babysitting 1½ year old triplets, they all pooped at the same time and one of them took off their poopy diaper and there was poop everywhere,” Timmerman exclaimed.

Babysitters need to be ready to help children with their every need, but they also need to have fun with the kids.

“Being positive and energetic is very important to be a good babysitter. Kids are still learning right from wrong, so it is important that you are patient and help them through their struggles,” Timmerman states.

Almost anyone can become a babysitter. Some people choose babysitting because they like kids. Others may choose it to earn some extra money.

Ava Anderson, ‘22, says, “I babysit because there aren’t many other job options for my age, and it is something I love to do.”

There can be many highs and lows of babysitting, but all that really matters is making sure the kids are safe and that they have fun!
