FCA: Filled with faith, fun and friends
They have wristbands, their tweets are famous for being accompanied by The Office gifs, and they’ve made their presence known in the hallways, but what is FCA? FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and it’s a group that meets every other Monday night. Mr. Cole Smith, along with 11 senior leaders, are the club’s core.
Anna Herrig, Matt Bandy, Louis Ungs, Spencer Goerdt, Zach Kemp, Krystal Tranel, Eli Berthel, Jimmy Chapman, Joe Friend, Mykenna Horchak and Craig Collins, ‘18, make up the senior leaders and are in charge of planning the activities.
“People should come to FCA because it’s really fun, and it gives you a chance to hang out with friends. Plus, you get to see Mr. Smith outside of school while being able to incorporate faith and sports,” said Bandy.
FCA is open to anyone who enjoys playing intramural sports and deepening their faith. The club plays everything from spikeball to capture the flag, and they’re even sponsoring a dodgeball tournament. A typical meeting involves a scripture reading and reflection in the chapel, followed by an activity planned by the leaders.
“I love the chapel time because it gives me the opportunity to share my faith as well as see the immense faith my classmates have. It’s humbling to see,” commented Herrig.
The next FCA event is the dodgeball tournament Saturday, Dec. 9th from 4-7 p.m. in the Wahlert gym. All are welcome no matter how athletically gifted.
