Black friday frenzy
Every Thanksgiving, after families have enjoyed their feast together and given thanks for the many things in their lives, tens of millions of people find themselves seeking out the best deals for the holidays. On Black Friday it is common to find seemingly unending lines outsides of stores such as Target, Best Buy and Walmart.
For many, the day provides an opportunity to get their Christmas shopping done at the lowest possible price. It is well documented how serious some people get and the lengths that they will go to in order to get the last Xbox 1 or that brand new TV.
Taking full advantage of the blockbuster deals, Courtney Schueller, ‘17, said,”I went shopping at Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, Kmart, Shopko, and the mall. I probably waited in line outside of Target for three hours, but the lines to check out were also long,” said Schueller. “But, it was worth it because I got a TV, Apple TV, a ton of PS4 and Xbox 1 games, and some DVDs.”
Nearly 100 million people were expected to participate in the festivities this year. Over the course of Black Friday weekend, that number increased to over 150 million people. These numbers do not include online sales or the also highly anticipated Cyber Monday.
All of these deals create a frenzy as people swarm into the stores to make sure they get what they came to buy. There are countless stories of fights breaking out over the last TV or game console.
Confirming these stories, Schueller said, “The atmosphere was insane. People were running and yelling as soon as the doors opened.”
No matter how crazy it is, as long as the deals continue on Black Friday, people will keep shopping for years to come because who doesn’t love a great deal?
