Super Bowl Sunday: Predicting The Big Game

It’s that time of year! Everyone will gather at parties, maintaining social distance of course,  to watch the big game. The Super Bowl! This year’s matchup could be the best we’ve seen in a while. The Kansas  City Chiefs taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For the Chiefs, you have Quarterback Patrick Mahomes who led his team to a Super Bowl victory last season. On the other side, a quarterback with the most Super Bowl wins as a quarterback, Tom  Brady.

The Chiefs are favored to win by 3.5, many Wahlert students have  picked the Buccaneers to win. JP Weber ‘23 predicts the Buccaneers will win 35-21. “As much as I hate Tom Brady,” said Weber, “he’s the Goat (greatest of all time), and he has one of the most explosive offenses we’ve seen in a while and a top run defense.” That explosive offense ranks third in the NFL in offensive efficiency, and their run Defense is second best in the league.

Eli Shubatt, ‘21, predicts the Buccaneers will win as well. “Tom Brady cannot be stopped,” Shubatt said.  Brady joined the Buccaneers back in March of 2020, leaving his former team the New England Patriots,  and with a limited offseason to gain chemistry with teammates, what he’s doing right now is pretty insane.

Luke Smith ‘23 also has the Bucs winning. “It’s Tom Brady in the playoffs. He will go down at the end of the game and have a game-winning drive, which will set up a field goal to win the game,” predicts Smith. Tom Brady already has three career game winning drives in the Super Bowl, and Smith predicts a 4th.

Brady Woods, ‘21, also predicts a Buccaneers win. “I think their offense is hot right now and that their defense will come up with a big stop at the end.”

There are some Chiefs’ fans out there. Among them is  Owen Wallace, ‘23, who predicts a Chiefs victory by the score of 33-26. “I think the Chiefs will win because they have the best offense in the league, and Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback.” Mahomes does have the second best QBR rating in the postseason  with a solid 90.1. My Super Bowl prediction? I’m with Wallace. This Chiefs’ offense is the best we’ve seen in awhile from any team. It’s almost impossible to stop them.
