Natalia Verastegui, ’19, is another member of the swim team going to state. She will be swimming the 400 free relay and the 100 free.

“We have come a long from the beginning of the season to now,” says Ariana Yaklich, ‘21. The swim team continued its momentum from last year’s state run throughout this season breaking four records on the way. This set them up to take first place at districts.

This year’s swim team is ranked 5th in the state.  Since there are no divisions in swimming, such as 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A, to rank so highly is a tribute to this team’s work ethic and talent.

The Eagles should be well represented at state this year. Maria Kircher, ‘20 will represent the divers. As for the swimmers, there are about eight swimmers that could make it to state between the individual and relay races.

Near the end of the season, the sophomore swimmers and divers attended the MVC meet. About 12 teams attended, and the meet acted as a mini-state for the sophomores. For many this meet meant a lot. Ariana Yaklich, ‘21, says, “I was very nervous for all of my events. I was probably the most nervous I have been for any swim meet.” She needn’t have worried. The sophomores scored big and left as the MVC sophomore champions!
