Sophomore Eagles soaring to Improve

Sophomore basketball is more than just sophmore  basketball. The boys on the team are preparing themselves to be varsity players. So having a successful season at a lower level will increase confidence for next year when they play at the varsity level.

Improvement is key for basketball and that is what Will Leytem, ‘18, strives to do every time he steps on the court. “We started off real slow in the beginning of the season, but as we got more comfortable and practiced harder, we got better,” said Leytem.Screenshot_2016-03-17-08-00-13-1

This season, Matt Rusch, ‘18, realized it’s a we-game not an I-game. “I always wanted the big shots and big plays. I never really cared how much people got the ball,” said Rusch.

Eventually, things became much easier for Rusch. “As the season went on, I knew we had to make an impact, and I knew just how to do it by getting the ball to everyone and seeing what they had to offer, and it worked very well,” said Rusch.

The team improved from the beginning of the season and finished with a record of 15-6. Now the players cannot wait to get on the court next season as varsity players.

“Chemistry is key,” said Craig Collins, ‘18. “We have that now, and we will be prepared to go to state next year and win a championship once again. This team is special, and I know we can do a lot more than what people think we’re capable of.”
