Coming Soon: Snap Inc Spectacles change Snapchat world

After two years of rumors, Snapchat, now known as Snap Inc, released two new blog posts on Sept. 24, 2016. Out of nowhere, Snap Inc informed their users about the new and improved Snap Inc product.

The product is a pair of sunglasses that allows the owner to record events with the Spectacles.

Snap Inc’s first ever hardware product will run at a retail price of $130.

“I think Spectacles are cool, but they’re expensive,” remarked Ben Miller, ’17. Spectacles allow Snapchat users to create memories through the integrated video camera that comes with the glasses.

Snap Inc has created one of smallest video cameras in the world. Users can take a day’s worth of snaps on a single charge. After pressing the button on the left side of the frame, a video will record for 10 seconds.

Maria Klein, ’19, thinks, “This is a way for Snapchat to make money, similar to Apple’s iPhone 7 wireless headphones.”

Once the video has finished recording, the video will save to the user’s “memories.” From here, users can decide if they want to share their video with friends or post it to their story.

“I don’t really see the point of needing glasses that can record what you see when you can just use your phone,” said Maddy Kramer, ’17.

Spectacles’ most interesting feature is the circle camera. The camera can record videos with a 115 degree lense. The circle lens allows the videos to be viewed as either portrait or landscape.

Snap Inc’s release of Spectacles has taken the world by storm. Spectacles even comes in three different colors! Snap Inc’s new invention will be released later this fall.
