NCYC: A faith building exercise

NCYC stands for the National Catholic Youth Conference. Some Wahlert students attended this life-changing event as part of the 1,800-strong delegation from the Dubuque diocese. They joined 25,000 people from all across America who came together to talk about our Catholic faith. The event featured several speakers who talked about their life experiences and how God shaped them into the person they are today.

“If you come to this, and you don’t end up getting anything out of this, it was just a waste of your time being there.” This was what Abbe Anderson, ‘19,  kept in mind the whole time she was there. She made it her goal to get something out of the event, even though she didn’t know what at the time.

Jack Jaeger, ‘18, “attended for the first time.” He thought that it was cool that he got to see 25,000 Catholic people all come together. “Personally, it was different and special for me to celebrate my faith with 25,000 people rather than like 200 people at your parish, and then only 400 people in your school.” He said that all people should attend to get the full experience. “Even if you might not have a strong faith life you could still end up getting something from it and also meet new people.”

Bennett Cutsforth, ‘20, also went to this conference for the first time. He really enjoyed all the fun things that they had to offer. He enjoyed the hotel, the concerts in the morning and evenings, trading items with others, and finally, his favorite part was Eucharistic Adoration. He said, “I enjoyed adoration because it was a calm and quiet time where you got to sit in silence and you got to feel the presence of God.”

If you’re looking for a faith-changing conference, NCYC could change your outlook on everything you do day to day. So start making plans to go to the next conference in 2020.
