The first year of “one-to-one computing” is in the books. For the most part, one-to-one has been a success, but some improvements being undertaken over the summer will push the computer use over the top.

Kelly Mussehl, employed in Wahlert’s very own tech office, says that a new version of everybody’s favorite, LanSchool, will be implemented next year.

Laptop reminders“If it’s not LanSchool it will be something similar,” reported Mussehl.

Students are warned to take good care of their laptops, so accidents such as this are not repeated.

As many students’ know, LanSchool did not work as planned. An update midway through the year involving the server caused it to cease working and all monitoring of student laptops halted. However, this issue will be fixed for the 2013-2014 school year.

For the most part, iBoss will stay the same. The same distracting websites will not be allowed and once again, come March, all NCAA Tournament-related sites will be restricted.

One thing the tech office would like to see less of are computer accidents.

“Computer accidents happen, but some can easily be prevented,” said Mussehl.

Accidents such as hinge damage due to people carrying their computers by the corner of the screen or missing keys due to “friendly” vandalism are just two examples of this. The tech office warns students to leave other students’ laptops alone.

This first year was a year to build upon in many ways. It established a firm base from which student computing could grow, and helped Wahlert Catholic to advance in many ways.
