Brushing the dust off their spikes
After taking last season off because of COVID-19, the men’s and women’s track teams are kicking the dust off their running shoes for the 2021 spring season.
Jake Brosious, ‘21, shares that the hard-working team hopes to have multiple runners make it to the Drake Relays and State Championship meet this year.
Likewise, Ariana Yaklich, ‘21, also has high hopes for the upcoming season.
Yaklich says, “The new freshmen will bring extra strength to our strong team, and we are ready to run in full action.”
From a freshman perspective, Rylee Steffen, ‘24, finds that, “The seniors on the team are outstanding role models for the underclassmen. They motivate us to give our best effort when drilling or doing workouts.”
Yaklich is also enthusiastic saying, “I am excited to be a senior. I looked up to all of the seniors in the past, and now that it’s my turn to be a leader, I can’t wait to help the team grow!”
For the men’s team, Eden Schrecker, ‘24, appreciates the seniors’ leadership.
“The seniors are really nice, and they bring a lot of talent to the team,” he said.
Brosious is excited to run with a full team.
“The freshmen are hardworking and can make an impact on our team for the better. They know what is necessary to compete competitively; they just have to come to practice to put the work in and stay in the weight room,” he says.
Both men’s and women’s track teams are ready to fight in this year’s season, and they are more prepared than ever before!
