Hitting the ground running this season

An excited coach and runners offer insight on what they hope girls track season will look like.

One of these runners, Abigail Klauer, ‘21, said, “As a team, everyone wants to win state as an all-around goal. This year we have a lot of really good runners with lots of potential especially with the new  incoming freshmen who definitely, if they work hard, will be able to participate in relays at state and hopefully together we can win.”

Many new freshman went out for track this season. “ I think we’re going to do well this track season because we have a lot of runners that are ready. We also have incoming freshman who are good, and as the season goes on, they will get better and better with our leadership,” said Aunna Huseman, ‘20. Even though there is only one senior out for track this year, there is a solid foundation of upperclassmen.

Morgan Montgomery, ‘19 stated, “I think we’re going to do pretty well. Although we lost quite a few of seniors, I think it will be interesting to see how we do.”

The team lost many senior role models to graduation, but that won’t stop the team from having mentors, such as juniors Clare Broderick, Libby Wedewer, and Aliyah Carter.  “I personally think the freshmen will step up and do their job on the team with the proper guidance,” said Montgomery.

Head coach Tim Berning  thinks, “The team will be successful.  There are great leaders on the team, and there is a solid work foundation.  I predict we will be one of the top three teams in the state by the end of the season.”
