Boy’s track team has high hopes for the present and future
The men’s track team has high hopes for the 2019 season with the end goal being a state championship after a successful season last year culminating in a Drake and State run. The team placed in the fourth at State, and eight people on the team medaled. Hopes are even higher for the returning senior class.
“This upcoming track season has a lot of potential. We are returning a lot guys from last year after a good State run. I myself know and a few others have been putting in a lot of work in the off season so hopefully it pays off so that we can make it back to state,” says Carter Oberfoell ‘19, “This season definitely means a lot to me because it is senior year, and I want to go out with a bang!”
Head Coach Doug Varley has the same goals for the team. “We just want to continue the things that we have done. We’ve been fortunate to finish in the top 10 in the state for the last few years so that is always our continued goal to be a top ten team.”
Coach Varley noted that the team has some new coaches. “The guys will get to learn from their expertise,” said Varley. The team hopes to return to Drake and to State using a formula which has proven successful in the past. “We will use the same plan we used before. We have a championship phase at the end, but a conditioning phase and a competitive phase before that,” said Varely.
