Baseball off-season no more

School is coming to an end, summer is nearing, and baseball season is just around the corner. This means cold spring nights and hot summer days on the diamond.

The team has gone to state the past three years in a row, setting a school record for the most consecutive appearances at state. The team broke another record last year coming within one game of the state championship and winning the first game at state in Wahlert Baseball history.

With baseball being a complete team sport, it is not always possible to choose who is going to have the opportunity to change or win the game for the team.

With several seniors having graduated. Still, a few seniors have a ton experience at the varsity level. They will seek to pass on their experience to the younger players.

Third-year varsity player Owen Funke, ‘18, says, “I’m looking forward to getting after it in my last year of baseball possibly and really to just have fun. I’m excited to play with new guys. Hopefully, this will lead to a fourth straight year at the state tournament at Principal Park.”
