Forever gold and blue

At Wahlert, everyone has his or her own unique way to celebrate school spirit dress down days. For Alex Nilles, ‘17,  finding an outfit that shows school spirit has always been easy during his years both at Mazzuchelli and Wahlert.

It all began when Alex was in sixth grade and scrambling to find an outfit on the morning of his first spirit day.

Like any other middle schooler, he wanted to dress to impress. “I remember looking for something that was formal, but also had our school colors,” Alex said. After minutes of digging through his closet, he found it. A white button down dress shirt with blue and yellow lines running vertically.

It seemed to be the perfect shirt, but the catch was that it still had a couple sizes on him. Nonetheless,  Alex decided to wear it to his first spirit day. Ever since, Alex has worn that same button down every spirit day. The color of the shirt hasn’t faded, just like his school pride. Year after year, he began to slowly fill into the shirt. In a fitting manner, the shirt finally fits him perfectly his last year of high school.

Though many people may not have noticed what seems like a normal shirt every year, that doesn’t matter to him. “It will definitely be something me and my friends will remember for the rest of my life,” said Nilles.

Alex’s shirt is just one example of the little things that make Wahlert’s spirit so special. This, along with its many other traditions is what makes Wahlert one of the proudest communities around.
