Every kid wants to honor his or her mother and thank her for all she does. This Sunday is Mother’s Day, a day set aside to appreciate how mothers dedicate their lives, time and hearts to their kids.

“My mother means a lot to me. She is always there for me, and she listens to me and gives me great advice,” said Clare Broderick, ‘20. The most important thing to Clare about her mother is that her mom loves her no matter what.

“My favorite thing about being a mother is always being there for my kids, and seeing the joy and smiles on my kids’ faces as well as seeing all of their accomplishments,” said Mrs. Beth Broderick, one of the school nurses for Wahlert and mother of Clare. She cares the most about her children’s happiness and successes.

Sometimes we don’t see all the things mothers do for their families. They do laundry, clean the house, put food on the table, and on top of it all, they take care of their children.

“I appreciate her because she cooks really great food, and she always makes me smile. Her laugh is contagious,” said Anna Varley, ‘17

Anna’s mother, Mrs. Becky Varley loves being with her children

“I love watching them grow into the people they have become, and I loved watching them go through the stages of being a baby to becoming an adult.”

Even though being a mother can be very difficult, mothers love their children unconditionally.

“You have to have understanding, caring and loving. You have to be everything wrapped in one: a guidance counselor, a heart mender, supporter, and a cheerleader,“ said Mrs. Shelley Burgmeier, the other school nurse, and mother of five.

Elle Burgmeier, ‘17, her youngest child, appreciates that “My mom is just really caring and always willing to help someone.” This Mother’s Day their whole family is coming home, and they are going to their family cottage to hang out on the river and spend time with each other.

Belle Pole, ‘20, and her family will be in Florida to celebrate Mother’s Day. They will be visiting Universal Studios that day.

“I appreciate my mother because she gave me life, but other than that, she has always been my best friend and my support system. She is my biggest role model,” Pole said.

Belle’s mom, Ms. Zoe Pole, works for Wahlert and is a mother to three children.

“My favorite thing about being a mother is watching my kids grow and learn,” Ms. Pole said.

Mothers do so much for their kids and are often very underappreciated. They work hard every day to make their kids feel happy and loved. Make sure to thank your mother for all of her hard work on this Mother’s Day, maybe even give her a nice present or a card.
